Design For Unboxing

Packaging design is one of the most important tools for marketing products and carrying out branded campaigns. People are constantly looking for new ways to discover brands and trendy items, especially on social media sites like Instagram and TikTok.

Marketing campaigns are all about creating content that is simple, shareable, and compelling; packaging design can be utilized in order to do this efficiently with great success.

Unboxing videos are a type of media that has become extremely popular over the last few years. Unboxing is defined as "a video where somebody opens a new consumer product in order to either show you what it looks like or review it." This particular form of content was inspired by technology YouTubers when they began recording themselves opening boxes.

This trend creates opportunities to consider how we can design delightful packaging experiences to inspire recipients to share and engage in campaigns and promotions.

It's also a wonderful added value in any kind of product design because it provides a pathway to giving the recipient custom packaging, custom inserts, and a more personalized experience.

Using QR Codes, and Augmented Reality Technologies allows for layering content on top of the packaging and direct mail pieces. We like to consider an entire user journey when we design packaging and how we can create a connection.

We start by understanding the intention of the campaign, or product launch. Getting into the mind of who will receive the item. We approach all of our projects with a thought process based on adding value to someone's day. A great question to ask when thinking through your promotional products and packaging strategy is "How do I want someone to feel when they put this in their hands?” Focusing on feelings helps to guide you to a more creative place where you can begin to imagine all the ways you can inspire a connection with your recipient.

Years ago, the question promotional products distributors would ask clients is "what do you want the perceived value to be of your promotional item?" This question has become limited and stodgy. Instead, try to think about what kind of experience you can deliver. Moments are valuable to all of us. If you are going to spend time and money to develop a custom promotional item or product, it's important to ask yourself deeper questions. This thoughtful approach leads to more engaging, inspiring, and valuable ideas.

Designing inspiring experiences will turn your customers into brand advocates and help you build community and culture around your brand. We love to work with brands who understand this methodology. Let's create something memorable together. Reach out and schedule a conversation.
